RailSolutions, LLC (RailSolutions) was founded for the purpose of providing quality consulting and advisory services to financial institutions, railroads, and private fleet owners who actively invest in railroad equipment. The firm was formed in February 1997.
RailSolutions has made a significant investment in reference materials and transportation industry publications which provide the base for the railroad industry-specific research and analyses conducted by the firm. In addition, the firm has developed several proprietary, computer-based analytical models that are regularly used in the course of the firm’s consulting business.
Michael E Mahoney joined RailSolutions in 2020 as Senior Vice President and now serves as President. Mr. Mahoney brings with him over 40 years of financial services experience, the last 20+ in rail finance.
From 2014 through 2020, he was a member of the Land Transport Finance team at DVB Bank and Helaba. While there, he was involved in the financing of 60,000 railcars with a total value of over $5 billion. Previously, he spent 16 years at GE Capital in the Structured Finance Group, GECAS, and GE Rail Services. The portfolio he managed there included 30,000 railcars and 3,000 locomotives. He began his career at Southeast Bank in Miami and the NatWest Bank group in Dublin and New York.
Mr. Mahoney received a BS in Finance from the University of Virginia and in 2000 an MBA in Finance and Information Systems from New York University.
Courtney A. O’H. Williams joined Rail Solutions as Senior Vice President bringing over 27 years of private and public sector experience in the finance, transportation and equipment leasing industries.
Ms. Williams began her career in transportation leasing with The First National Bank of Boston,
working financial transactions across all transportation sectors including, air, rail, blue and
brown water shipping, and trucking. In 1996 she accepted a position as Assistant Vice President
Operations for Helm Financial Corporation, one of the largest independent locomotive and
railcar operating leasing companies in North America.
While at Helm Ms. Williams assumed progressive management responsibilities for Operations,
Mechanical and Marketing, successfully overseeing and executing the company’s mission of sourcing, valuing, acquiring, refurbishing, and retrofitting rail assets to meet market demand of a customer base spanning Class Is, Short Lines, Regionals, Industrial Shippers, and Rail Manufacturers. Ms. Williams was named President & COO in 2007. As President of Helm she additionally oversaw and acted in the capacity of President & Managing Partner of two distinct long term Class I joint ventures.
Ms. Williams was named President & CEO in 2010, successfully steering the company through
the economic recovery and ultimately positioning the company for a successful equity buyout to
Wells Fargo Bank, NA in 2014.
Ms. Williams has a BS from Boston College.
